Time to fill your kitchen with fresh spring ingredients – and get rid of those old, mysterious jars.
At last, winter is over. It’s been a long season of hibernation, cosy nights in and hearty meals. But now, your fridge is probably due for a good, old-fashioned spring clean.
A sparkling clean fridge stocked with fresh and healthy ingredients is the perfect way to start off the warmer months. And it doesn’t have to be a whole-day job – there are a few quick things you can do right now to set yourself up for a fresh start.

Open them and inspect them. If they look or smell funny, into the bin!
Old frozen leftovers
Now, freezing leftover soups, pastas and casseroles is a great idea – but we’re talking about those containers that have been sitting in the back of the freezer for months. Are you really planning on defrosting and eating them? If the answer is ‘probably not’, clear them out to make room for new meals you’re actually excited about.
It’s time to confront the crisper and get rid of anything not so crisp. If your squash is looking a little squashed, and your sweet potato is starting to grow spouts, toss them out. Empty the vegetabke drawer, give it a good scrub with soapy water. Line it with paper towel and start again.

A bowl of fruit
Put all your fruit in a glass bowl in the fridge – it’s an easier way to see what lovely fruit you’ve got, and keeping it chilled will ward off fruit flies.
Carrot and celery sticks
Chop them up in advance and store in airtight containers for quick and easy snacks during spring.
Even the simplest of meals can be made amazing with fresh herbs. Trying mixing roughly torn basil in your tomato salad, or chop some fresh mint through frozen watermelon pieces.
Not just for breakfast, eggs make a great fall-back for weekday dinners, too! Think veggie frittatas, ham and cheese quiche, or fried rice.
