Can I switch health insurance at any time?

Yes, you can switch health insurance at any time but remember: you need to join Medibank within 2 months of leaving your previous Australian health fund if you want the waiting periods you've already served recognised and waived.

What if I change my mind?

If you're not completely happy with your cover in the first 30 days of joining, simply let us know and we can help you transfer to a more suitable cover or refund your premiums provided no claims have been made.

Do waiting periods get recognised?

Waiting periods already served only get recognised if you join within 2 months of leaving your previous Australian health fund.

You may still need to serve any waiting periods you have not fully served with your previous fund. Waiting periods for any new or upgraded services or benefits apply.

Things you should know

^ You need to join Medibank within 2 months of leaving your old fund, or waiting periods apply again. Also, benefits that have been paid under your previous cover will be taken into account in determining the extras benefits payable under your Medibank cover.

¹ Two month waiting period applies. Limited to two dental check-ups on all extras annually. Maximum two bitewing x-rays per check-up, where clinically needed. Not available in all areas.  

² For Accidents that occur in Australia after your cover starts.  Must seek medical treatment within 7 days, and receive hospital treatment within 12 months, of the Accident occurring.  Excludes claims covered by third parties and our Private Room Promise. Out of pockets may apply.  

³ Waiting periods apply. For ambulance attendance or transportation to a hospital where immediate professional attention is required and your medical condition is such that you couldn't be transported any other way. Tasmania and Queensland have state schemes to cover ambulance services for residents of those states.

⁴ Some claims, like paper based, may take longer to update. If you have Visitors Health Insurance, Working Visa Health Insurance or Overseas Student Health cover, you may not be able to use all the features.
