Choosing where to have your baby is a big decision and you’ll need to make a call on the things that are most important to you. Maybe it’s having the full private experience (hospital and obstetrician), or it’s a time when budgets might be tighter.

Although private health insurance will cover part of your pregnancy, you should be aware that you will still have out-of-pocket expenses to pay. We recommend that you talk to your obstetrician, the hospital and us about what the costs might be.

If you’re planning on starting or extending your family, it’s important that you’re aware there is a 12 month waiting period for hospital admissions for pregnancy and birth. Remember babies can also come early, so it’s important to take this into account when you start planning your family.
If you’re joining Medibank from another Australian health fund, you don’t need to re-serve waiting periods for any services that were included on your previous cover you’ve already served.~
