10 quick, delicious, healthy breakfast ideas

Brighten up your morning with a fresh, nourishing feast.

For many of us, breakfast is not on the top of our priority list. When we’re rushing around in the mornings, it’s too easy to miss out on a nutritious breakfast meal. And that means missing the opportunity to be more alert, have sharper concentration levels and to function more effectively throughout the day.

To remedy this, here are some easy and delicious breakfast ideas to start your day out right.

1. Homemade Bircher muesli

Bircher muesli is easy to prepare and can be made in advance and stored in a container in the fridge – breakfast sorted for the rest of the week! Muesli consists of wholegrains, which provide us with plenty of protein and fibre. You can serve it with milk, yoghurt and/or fruit such as berries, apple or banana.

2. Fruit salad with plain yoghurt

Fruit is a fantastic addition to any breakfast. It contains essential fibre, vitamins and minerals. A fruit salad is a light breakfast – try adding some yoghurt and a sprinkle of muesli to bulk it up and increase its nutrition.

3. Breakfast frittata

If you’re looking for a more savoury option, frittatas make an excellent breakfast. They’re convenient to bake in advance – then when you’re ready to eat, simply heat up a slice in the microwave. Include fresh vegetables in your frittatas to help meet your daily serves.

4. Breakfast smoothie

Smoothies are a great option for people who don’t have much of a morning appetite but are looking for a quick energy boost. They’re super versatile, and you can mix and match your own flavour combinations.

5. Avocado on toast

Spreading avocado on toast adds a range of vital nutrients such as fibre, folate and healthy fats. These healthy fats can help lower cholesterol levels when replacing saturated fat in the diet. For extra flavour and nutrition, try incorporating some fresh tomatoes, feta cheese or smoked salmon as well.

6. Granola bars

Forget the high sugar, store-bought muesli bars – making your own homemade granola bars is a healthier option, and easier than you might think. Granola bars should include a variety of wholegrains, nuts and seeds. Nuts and seeds contain healthy fats and are high in protein and fibre – which means they’ll keep you feeling full for longer.

7. Breakfast wrap

Add all your favourite ingredients inside a wholegrain wrap and pop it into the sandwich press – quick, easy and deliciously filling.

9. Fruit toast toppers

It’s unconventional, but putting fruit on toast is a popular trend. There are endless choices and many combinations to try out, so get creative.

10. Toasted sandwich

For all those sandwich lovers, a good old classic toastie is fantastic. If you miss out on breakfast at home, this is something really quick to prepare in the office – minimal time and effort required!
