How learning First Aid can save lives

This World First Aid Day, the Australian Red Cross encourages us all to learn how to be real heroes.

Would you know what to do if someone around you suddenly needed help? Learning First Aid and knowing how to provide appropriate assistance in emergency situations can make a very real difference – and even save lives. In fact, the International Federation of Red Cross says that in emergencies, 90% of lives are saved by ordinary people who have learned the basics of first aid.

First Aid incidents are often unpredictable and can occur anywhere, in any situation. Being prepared and having the knowledge and confidence to be able to step in gives you the power to help people, and in some cases even prevent these incidents to begin with.

Where can I learn First Aid?

Red Cross is the world’s largest and most credible First Aid training provider, operating in Australia since 1914. Red Cross First Aid training is run in different locations all across Australia, so it’s easy to find a course near you.

Learn First Aid online

The most popular First Aid courses are also available through Red Cross’s multi-award winning online learning portal. Open to everyone with no prerequisites, Red Cross Online First Aid courses follow the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines and provide all the theory you would normally cover in a face-to-face course. Once you’ve finished the online component, all you need to do is book in for a practical assessment at your closest Red Cross training location.

Red Cross First Aid app

Even if you have your First Aid certificate, you’ll probably need a refresher every now and then. The free Red Cross First Aid app supports all the skills and knowledge acquired through First Aid training, with quick instructions to remind you and guide you through important processes. It also has interactive quizzes so you can test your knowledge, and some helpful videos and images.
