Indigenous health & wellbeing
We believe every Australian has the right to good health and we are proud that we were the first private health insurer to launch a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
In bringing our reconciliation commitment to life, we have learned that the path to better health outcomes is through working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, through a whole-of-community effort and by fostering national pride in the value of culture.
We recently completed our third RAP and are looking forward to launching a new set of commitments in 2017. Taking into account the social determinants of health including education, employment, and economic participation, our new set of objectives will continue to be rooted in community-led, empowered action and cross-sector support.
See Medibank's latest RAP reports below:
Emergency relief & recovery
Partnering with Australian Red Cross is the way Medibank continues its long-standing tradition of supporting communities in times of need.
Encouraging people to plan and prepare for unexpected disaster is part of our focus. Medibank supports the Australian Red Cross National Disaster Preparedness Week each year as well as contributing to relief in times of crisis in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region when it’s needed most.
Supporting events with healthy outcomes
At Medibank we are committed to investing in the health and wellbeing of the Australian community. This includes supporting a range of programs and events to encourage a healthier body, mind and spirit.
Medibank is a proud major sponsor of global running (and walking) phenomenon Parkrun. With a shared mission to create a healthier and happier community, Parkrun organises free, weekly, 5km timed runs in almost 200 locations around Australia every Saturday morning. Medibank’s partnership is designed to make regular physical exercise more accessible to as many Australians as possible by breaking down barriers to entry and to encourage regular participation.
Medibank Melbourne Marathon
Medibank is the proud naming rights partner to the Medibank Melbourne Marathon, which remains our longest standing community sponsorship. Held in October in each year, the Medibank Melbourne Marathon finishes inside the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. It attracts upwards of 30,000 participants, including more than 6000 Medibank customers. Whether you’re walking, running or completing your first marathon, Medibank is there to support you every step of the way.
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
Helping to build a culture of respect and inclusion by embracing diversity is important to Medibank’s employees, customers and the communities in which we live and work. We’re proud to support the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras as the official health insurance partner of this world famous event. Through the sponsorship, Medibank celebrates and recognises that every individual is different and that no two families are alike. We believe in the power of inclusion and acceptance as part of a healthy and happy modern Australian society.
Medibank Feel Good Program
Held in Brisbane’s Southbank precinct from February to May and October to December, the Medibank Feel Good Program provides free health and wellbeing classes to the local community. The program is designed to suit all fitness levels, with classes ranging from low impact to high energy options. Medibank’s support demonstrates our commitment to enabling more Australians to lead healthier lives by encouraging a better body, mind and spirit.
