Medibank Travel Insurance has a range of different plans to help protect travellers. 

• An International Comprehensive Plan offers the highest level of protection when travelling abroad. It can provide cover for overseas medical and dental emergencies,¹ plus inclusions for unforeseen cancellations,² lost/stolen valuables³ and more. This can be purchased as either a Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip policy.
• An International Medical Only Plan provides cover for overseas medical and hospital expenses¹ that occur whilst travelling. It will not provide cover for things like trip cancellation or lost luggage. Medical only cover can only be purchased as Single Trip insurance. 
• Domestic Travel Insurance is designed to help protect trips within Australia. It includes cover for cancellation, amendment & delays,² cover for lost, stolen & damaged personal effects³ and more. Domestic travel insurance does not include any cover for medical expenses incurred whilst travelling. Because this is not permitted by law and you are already entitled to treatment under Medicare and/or your private healthcare entitlement. A Domestic Plan can be purchased as either a Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip policy. 

What's the difference between Single Trip and Annual Multi-Trip travel insurance?

• Single Trip means that you will have cover for a single trip taken within the dates listed on the Certificate of Insurance.
• Annual Multi-Trip (AMT) is designed to provide comprehensive travel insurance for multiple trips taken within a 12 months period (noting that each individual trip taken must not exceed the maximum trip duration as shown on the Certificate of Insurance). 
  • For an international AMT you can select a 30, 45 or 60 day maximum trip duration.
  • For a domestic AMT you can select a 15 or 30 day maximum trip duration.

Yes - you can add cover for these activities when getting a quote since they're not automatically included in travel insurance (additional cost will apply). 

Cruise Cover: Add this if your trip includes multi-night sea and ocean cruising. 

✓ Your cruise is on an ocean or sea outside of Australian coastal waters. 

✗ Not required for river cruises or single night cruises.  

Note: If cruising between Australian Ports without any stopover at a port outside of Australia, select ‘Domestic Cruise’ as your destination. If your cruise go outside of Australia coastal waters, choose the area/destination you spent most of your trip and add Cruise Cover during the quote process. 

High Value Items: Add extra cover for individual items like laptops, cameras, designer bags & jewellery. 

Note: This option is not available on the International Medical Only Plan.

Snow Sports: Add this if you want cover for skiing, snowboarding or snowmobiling. 

✓ Must be on-piste and non-competitive.

Motocycle/Moped: Add this if you want cover for riding a motorbike or scooter (250cc or less). 

✓ You (or the driver) must hold a valid license.

✓ Helmets must be worn.

✗ No racing, motocross or professional riding.

Yes - but it depends on the condition. 

When you apply for Medibank Travel Insurance, you don't need to visit a doctor, or provide a medical report. Instead you can:

• Read through the ‘Existing Medical Conditions' section in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), or
• Complete a quick self-assessment during the online application process. 

There are three categories of medical conditions:

1. Conditions we automatically cover - (and your condition meets the criteria in the PDS) no extra steps needed. 
2. Conditions we need to assess - you can apply for cover during the quote process.
3. Conditions which cannot be covered - even if you apply, such as cosmetic surgery.

It's important to check which category your condition falls into. If your condition isn't automatically covered and you don't apply for extra cover, you won't be able to claim anything related to that condition. You can view the Product Disclosure Statement to find a full definition of 'Existing Medical Conditions' and what we automatically cover.
