Hospital Casemix Protocol (HCP)

Under the Private Health Insurance Act 2007 (Cth) and associated rules, all private hospitals and private health insurers have compulsory reporting obligations.

As part of this, the Department of Health requires that private hospitals provide data in accordance with the Hospital Casemix Protocol to private health insurers (HCP Data). This includes the financial, clinical and demographic data for each episode of hospital treatment for which a benefit was paid.

This information must be submitted on a monthly basis within six weeks after the insured person has been discharged from hospital. To assist with this, Medibank has a “HCP Portal”, which allows secure online submission of HCP Data by hospitals to Medibank.
