What is Extra Care?†
Extra Care is available as an optional add-on to Pet Protect and Pet Plus Pet Insurance policies, but it will be included with all Pet Max policies. Give your pet cover for even more, with Extra Care†, designed to provide additional coverage for specified dental conditions and specialised therapies. If you have Extra Care, it will be listed on your Certificate of Insurance along with your Extra Care limit of $2,000 per year, which is in addition to your policy’s standard benefit limit.
Extra Care can be added during the application process for an additional premium with Pet Plus, and Pet Protect policies.
Specified Dental Conditions
What can be covered?
If your pet develops a specified dental condition after any applicable waiting period, we’ll cover eligible vet expenses related to:
Scaling and polishing
Dental X-rays
Tooth removal.
Covered conditions are:
Gingivitis
Abscesses
Odontoclastic resorptive lesions
Dental disease arising from infection
Retained deciduous (baby) teeth
Cavities
Fractured teeth due to dental disease.
Specialised Therapies
What can be covered?
If your pet is diagnosed with a covered condition after the commencement of your first policy period and after any applicable waiting period, we’ll cover eligible vet expenses for the following specialised therapy items, when prescribed by a qualified vet:
Physiotherapy or physical therapy (performed by a qualified animal physiotherapist or vet)
Chiropractic manipulation (performed by a qualified animal chiropractor within a veterinary practice)
Acupuncture (performed by a vet)
Hydrotherapy (performed in a veterinary practice’s pool or water treadmill)
Prescribed medication and diagnostic tests for behavioural conditions diagnosed by a vet or veterinary behavioural specialist-
Consultations with a veterinary behavioural specialist for behavioural conditions.-
What’s not covered?
Any condition not listed under Specified Dental Conditions
Any treatment other than scaling, polishing, X-rays, or tooth removal for covered conditions
Items listed under general exclusions in the PDS.
What’s Not Covered?
Specialised therapy used for prevention rather than treatment
Specialised therapy for conditions not covered by the policy
Any therapy not listed as a covered specialised therapy item
