How goal setting leads to success

A sports psychologist shares her secrets to setting and achieving fitness goals.

As simple as it might sound, strategic goal setting can make a real difference to your wellbeing and fitness success. Whatever it is you want to achieve, dedicating the time to mapping out how you will make your goals a reality is the key. This is an area where we can learn from the discipline of elite athletes, who not only know what goals they want to achieve, but spend a lot of time and effort developing the ‘how’.

We spoke to Dr Renee Appaneal, Senior Psychologist at the Australian Institute of Sport explains, for expert advice on setting and achieving our own lifestyle and exercise goals.
