Financial hardship temporary premium reduction

Providing further support for members experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19

Our 'financial hardship temporary premium reduction' has been designed to further support eligible membersŦ receiving government assistance (eg. JobSeeker, JobKeeper, etc.) to manage financial hardship as a result of reduced income/work hours due to COVID-19.

Eligible membersŦ can access a temporary premium reduction of 50% for a period of six months. 

Who is eligible?

Eligbility criteria

You must be:

  • A Medibank residential health cover member who has held their cover for at least three months
  • Receiving an eligible government support payment due to COVID-19

Not eligible for the 50% temporary premium reduction? You may be eligible for our 10% state of disaster temporary premium reduction.

 

 

 

Supporting documentation

You will be asked to provide documentation to support your financial hardship claim. Below is a list of documentation that can support your claim:

  • JobSeeker Payment - previously called NewStart
  • Austudy / Abstudy
  • Youth Allowance
  • Sickness Allowance
  • Parenting Payment
  • Document from employer confirming JobKeeper payment

Note: Members with Overseas Visitors Health Cover or Overseas Workers Cover are excluded and should contact Medibank on 132 331, or on 134 148 if you are an Overseas Student Health Cover member, to discuss your membership.

How to apply

Step 1: Log in (or register) to My Medibank 

Step 2: Complete the financial hardship assistance application form. 

Step 3: A member of the Medibank will then be in touch to confirm your eligibility.
