Hospital cover can pay towards services you receive when you’re admitted to hospital and treated as a private patient. It can’t pay towards any services when you’re not admitted to hospital (e.g. seeing your GP or specialist).
“Extras” is used to describe a range of health services and items that are generally provided outside the hospital system – like physiotherapy, dental and optical items. Extras cover helps pay towards the cost of these services and items.

The easiest way to claim for extras services is with your Medibank card. Next time you visit the dentist or physio, just swipe your card before you pay (to make an on-the-spot claim) then all you need to do is pay the difference! To claim for hospital services and items you’ll need to fill out our online forms and lodge the claim via post or in store. Learn more at medibank.com.au/health-insurance/claim.
An annual limit is the maximum amount we pay towards services and/or items within a calendar year. Annual limits don’t tick over and reset on 1 January each year.
