What is Medibank’s No Gap Joint Replacement program?
Thanks to partnerships with select surgeons and hospitals, Medibank’s No Gap Joint Replacement program offers eligible members with hospital cover+ a more affordable care option for hip and knee replacement surgery.
Eligible members could pay no out-of-pocket costs* for included treatments and services as part of a hospital admission1 for elective hip or knee replacement surgery, when treated at a participating hospital with a participating surgeon.#
Step 1
Check your cover eligibility. Your cover must include Joint Replacement benefits and, if required, Rehabilitation benefits. Call us to confirm your cover and any waiting periods.
Step 2
Chat to your GP about a referral to a participating surgeon from the list below. There may be out-of-pocket costs for your GP consultation, which is not included in the No Gap Replacement program.
Step 3
Contact a participating surgeon to book an initial outpatient consultation. This appointment may incur out-of-pocket costs and is not included in the No Gap Replacement program.
Step 4
The surgeon will assess you to determine the next steps. It's important to note that, in some cases, surgery is not the most appropriate action and therefore the surgeon may recommend alternatives to surgery.
Step 5
If surgery is the next step, the surgeon will then discuss the No Gap Joint Replacement program and if you are a clinically appropriate candidate. The surgeon will have the final say if you are appropriate for the program or not.
Step 6
If clinically appropriate, the surgeon's rooms will organise the surgery booking with the hospital, which will also include scheduling pre-operative patient education.
What costs are included in the No Gap Joint Replacement program?
Usually, there are several out-of-pocket costs associated with an elective hip or knee replacement surgery: surgeon fees, bills for scans and blood tests, the anaesthetist’s bill and more - it adds up.
That’s why we’ve partnered with participating surgeons at participating hospitals to offer no out-of-pocket costs* for included treatments and services for knee and hip joint replacement surgeries under this program, including:
Pre-admission joint school
Hip or knee replacement surgery, including your prosthesis (artificial joint)
Anaesthetist costs
Assistant surgeon costs
Hospital accommodation, including all theatre costs
Diagnostic tests (scans and blood tests)
Crutches provided by the hospital prior to discharge
If required, rehabilitation provided in the comfort of your own home or where your participating surgeon deems most suitable for you
Out-of-pocket costs may still be payable for non-included treatments and services.
