Medibank COVID-19 Travel Insurance Benefits
Will I get cover for:
Yes, Medibank Travel Insurance can cover the cost of overseas medical treatment and ambulance transportation if you're diagnosed with COVID-19 by a qualified medical practitioner whilst you're on your trip.
Please note: Your destination must not be subject to a ‘Do not travel’ advice on the Smartraveller website at the time you enter the country or part of the country. Medical cover will not exceed 12 months from onset. Limits, sub-limits, conditions and exclusions apply to COVID-19 travel insurance benefits. See PDS for full details.
Medical cover is not available on our Domestic Plan.
If you or your travelling companion(s) are diagnosed with COVID-19 and it is confirmed by a qualified medical practitioner that you can no longer travel, pre-trip cancellation and amendment cover applies.
There is a maximum benefit limit for all COVID-19 related cancellation and amendment fees. This is $10,000 for an International Comprehensive Plan and $5,000 for a Domestic Plan. No cancellation and amendment cover is available if you purchased an International Medical Only Plan.
Please note: There is no pre-trip cancellation or amendment cover if you are cancelling/modifying your trip due to COVID-19 related travel warnings, government-directed border closures, or due to mandatory quarantine requirements. Nor is there pre-trip cancellation or amendment cover if you are deemed to be close contact and must isolate and therefore can no longer go on your trip. Yes, if you have purchased an International Comprehensive Plan, you’ll be eligible for up to $10,000 cover for various COVID-19 related cancellation and amendment fees. If you have purchased a Domestic Plan, then you’ll have cover up to $5,000.
For example: Cover is provided (up to the specified limit) if you or your travelling companion(s) are diagnosed with COVID-19 by a qualified medical practitioner who confirms that you are not fit for travel, or if you are individually contacted by a local public health authority and are directed into a period of quarantine and can no longer continue travelling.

Cancellation and amendment cover is not available on an International Medical Only Plan.
Yes, we can provide cover for some additional expenses incurred, such as accommodation and transport costs if you’re diagnosed with COVID-19 during your trip, or if you need to extend your stay overseas if you’ve fallen ill from COVID-19. A qualified medical practitioner will need to confirm in writing your COVID-19 diagnosis and inability to travel in order to make a claim.

Medibank Travel Insurance is proud to offer COVID-19 benefits across all travel insurance plans. Unfortunately, we can’t cover every scenario that may arise as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. For example, we will not pay any claims arising from or caused by COVID-19 if:
- Your destination is subject to a ‘Do not travel’ advice on the Smartraveller website at the time you enter the country or part of the country. (This ‘Do not travel’ exclusion does not apply if your destination is New Zealand).
- Your claim is related to you having travelled on a multi-night sea or ocean cruise and you have not purchased additional Cruise Cover for your policy.
- Your costs are related to a government directed border closure.
- Your costs are due to mandatory quarantine or isolation orders required to cross a border, such as a border between states, countries, or regions.
- You are cancelling your trip because you are a close contact and required to isolate.
