More about prescription medicine
You will need to pay a set fee towards the cost of each prescription item first, before we pay any benefits. If the charge is higher than the benefit we pay, the difference will be an out-of-pocket cost.
Benefits can only be received for pharmacy items prescribed by a doctor (GP or specialist) to treat an illness, injury or condition. We don’t pay benefits for any over the counter medicines, vitamins or herbal medicines.
It's important to note, you might have to pay a significant amount of your own money if you need treatment that uses expensive pharmaceuticals (for example: cancer treatment).
