How the program works

The program is delivered in stages to help ensure you receive the right care and support at the right time, if clinically suitable. Clean Slate Clinic provides support from qualified specialists, nurses and other clinical practitioners through each stage of the Full program and Aftercare pathways.

The full program includes Stages 1, 2 and 3 to help eligible members+ manage their detox and recovery.

The aftercare pathway involves Stage 3 only and supports eligible members+ who have already completed detox at a hospital or in-patient facility.

Stage 1 – Preparation & Assessment
Full program only
Duration: Up to 2 weeks

The first stage is designed to help ensure eligible members+ who participate in the program are psychologically, socially, and physically prepared for a safe, clinically supported detox at home.

Eligible members+ who participate in the program will connect with a dedicated nurse and GP for a comprehensive assessment and personalised care plan to explore their goals and identify potential triggers to establish the right support for long-term recovery.

As part of this stage, participants receive:

  • One appointment with a Clean Slate Clinic GP and two with a nurse with experience in alcohol and drug dependencies.

  • Basic tests (including blood tests).

  • Prescriptions for withdrawal medications, if clinically required.

  • A care package to begin the program, which includes a breathalyser.

Stage 2 – Detox
Full program only
Duration: 1–3 weeks

Participants get support through a medically supervised medicated detox at home program, which provides an alternative to the care usually delivered in a hospital or outpatient clinic.

Daily support includes:

  • Check-ins with a dedicated nurse to ensure safety and comfort.

  • Ongoing clinical monitoring for reassurance and guidance.

  • Medication adjustments, if required.

  • Alternative care options or referrals if home detox isn’t suitable.

Stage 3 – Aftercare
Duration: Up to 11 months

After detox in hospital or separate inpatient facility, eligible members+ continue to receive support to maintain their recovery and build long-term strategies to manage alcohol or drug withdrawal.

Support includes:

  • Regular nurse follow-ups.

  • Access to up to five online SMART Recovery group sessions per week.

  • Development of a tailored relapse-prevention and recovery plan.

  • Final clinical review, with recommendations shared with the member’s GP to ensure continuity of care.

Over the remainder of the program, support gradually transitions as confidence and independence grows, to ensure eligible members+ have the tools and strategies they need to maintain their recovery and manage any triggers effectively.
