Medibank gets moving
19 September 2025

We’re committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our people, not just through the services we offer, but in how we work every day. In 2024, we identified a growing concern across our workforce; high levels of sedentary work.
Sedentary work, defined as sitting for long periods, has been linked to increased risks of chronic health conditions including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and certain cancers. It also contributes to discomfort and musculoskeletal issues, impacting both wellbeing and productivity. Recognising the need for change, we set out to get our people moving.
We launched a multi-pronged initiative to encourage movement throughout the workday:
Start Moving Today Masterclass
A new educational session designed to raise awareness of the risks of sedentary behaviour and provide practical strategies to incorporate movement into daily routines.
Every Step Counts Movement Challenge
In April, we ran a 30-day organisation-wide challenge via the workplace health and wellbeing app:
- 675 employees participated
- 147 million steps recorded - the equivalent of walking around Australia nearly 7.6 times
- Average daily steps increased from 7,300 to over 9,000
Moving Meetings
We introduced a simple calendar integration for Outlook and Teams, allowing employees to schedule walking meetings; encouraging movement without disrupting collaboration.
2-Minute Moves
We promoted our suite of short, guided, accessible movement breaks that can be done anywhere, helping employees reset and recharge throughout the day. These initiatives have not only increased physical activity across the organisation but also reinforced our commitment to workplace wellbeing. By embedding movement into our day, we’re helping our people feel better, work smarter, and stay healthier, now and into the future.
