Recognition criteria for providers without a Medicare number

If you do not have a Medicare provider number, you must be a member of a professional organisation that meets the requirements under rule 10 of the Private Health Insurance (Accreditation) Rules. Please see below for the professional organisations we recognise.

We recommend you contact the organisation to make sure that your level of membership is appropriate for provider registration with Medibank. Some levels of membership (e.g. student member) may not be approved.

If you’re not a member of a professional organisation, consider contacting a relevant organisation from the list below and enquire about becoming a member. You can then apply to become a Medibank recognised provider.

If you’re a member of a professional organisation not listed below, that organisation will need to obtain an organisation provider number. They can contact us on 1300 130 460 to organise this.
