George Savvides

Managing Director
Commenced role April 2002

George has over 18 years of experience in the health care industry, including former positions as Managing Director of Sigma; Regional Managing Director for Smith+Nephew; and General Manager CIG Healthcare. George was a Director on the Board of Medibank Private prior to being appointed in his current executive role. George is currently a Board Member of AHIA (Australian Health Insurance Association); Director of ACHR (Australian Centre for Health Research Limited); Councillor, International Federation of Health Plans; and non-executive Director World Vision International and World Vision Australia.

Bruce Levy

Chief Operating Officer & Deputy Managing Director
Commencement at Medibank in October 2002

Prior to joining Medibank Private as Provider Relations Manager in October 2002, Bruce had extensive experience in the health and hospitality industries culminating as General Manager of the Melbourne-based Alfred Hospital, for which he drove a financial turnaround, redeveloped models of care delivery and managed community interest groups. Bruce’s division encompasses Medibank Private’s Health Services and Operations functions which include managing hospital and provider relations, driving member wellbeing programs, implementing quality and safety initiatives, and overseeing the $2.5 billion health services expenditure by Medibank Private members. On the member services front, his responsibilities include group and business marketing, product development, customer services, distribution and channel sales and the Strategic Business Units which oversee $2.8 billion in member contributions.

Michael Sammells

Chief Financial Officer
Commenced role November 2005

Michael brings over nine years of health industry experience and 14 years of other industry experience, in both financial and operational roles, to his current position. He has worked in both the public and private sector. Previous roles include Mayne Group in Health and Logistics, Director of Finance and Corporate Services at Southern Health and, more recently, National Hospital Manager, Medibank Private. As Chief Financial Officer, Michael is responsible for the financial standing of the company, claims processing and the actuarial services vital to our ongoing success. Michael is also the Executive Business Sponsor of our Business Systems Renewal (BSR) program.

Ilona Charles

Group General Manager People, Culture and Communications
Commenced role February 2010

Ilona has had extensive experience in senior and executive human resources roles. Prior to joining Medibank, Ilona worked with the National Australia Bank for almost 15 years in corporate and business roles. Most recently Ilona was General Manager, Executive Talent working within the Office of the CEO. Her career and expertise includes people strategy, operations management, transformation and change management, policy development and workplace relations.

Ilona started her career as an Occupational Therapist during which time she worked for WorkSolutions Group, provider of occupational rehabilitation services and now a key business within Medibank Health Solutions.

People, Culture and Communications manages the company’s human capital, ensuring Medibank has the right capability and culture to enable strong business performance. This includes leadership development, training, performance and remuneration frameworks, continuous improvement initiatives, knowledge management and internal communications.

Stan Macionis

Chief Executive Officer Health Services
Commenced role in April 2009

Stan was Managing Director of Health Services Australia Group (HSA) at the time of its merger with Medibank Private, and continued his role as Chief Executive Officer of the Health Services Division following the merger.

Since 1998, Stan has held various senior management roles within HSA, including as Managing Director of the Travel Doctor subsidiary and Group Chief Operating Officer. He played a pivotal role in earlier HSA business development including the acquisition of Work Solutions. Prior to HSA, Stan was Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Corrections, overseeing a period of significant reform.

The Health Services Division employs most of Medibank's medical and allied health professional staff and delivers health risk assessment and prevention services, health screening, occupational health, safety and rehabilitation services, return to work programs and travel health services to Medibank members and corporate clients.

Terry Snyders

Chief Information Officer
Commenced Role September 2007

Terry has been working in the technology sector for over 28 years. He began developing his IT expertise while working at Shell Australia, before moving into project management at ACI Computer Services. Prior to joining Medibank Private, Terry amassed 18 years experience at ANZ as General Manager, Institutional Technology. In this role he was responsible for some of the bank's largest and most important technology projects. Terry brings to Medibank Private a strong project management background and extensive IT experience. As CIO, Terry leads all elements of IT investment, technology delivery and IT operations.
