What's an excess?

If you have an excess on your cover, you pay this amount towards the cost of your hospital treatment. The higher the excess on your cover, the lower your premium. An excess applies per person per calendar year and doesn't apply to children on your membership.

It's important to note that you may have other out-of-pocket expenses. Please refer to Things worth knowing for more information.

Restricted
Services we pay limited benefits for in a private hospital. It's important to consider whether you're likely to need these services because, the benefits for restricted services generally won’t cover the full cost of treatment in a private hospital and you may end up with significant out-of-pocket expenses.

Waiting periods may apply including the general 2 month waiting period, 12 months for pre-existing conditions and a 12 month waiting period for obstetrics-related services. For more information including other benefit assessment information, please refer to Things worth knowing.
