Medibank offers three pet insurance products to help manage unexpected costs of veterinary care.

Important things to consider are how much you’d like your annual limit to be and the benefit percentage and excess you prefer. Also, take a look at the Extra Care benefit which covers specified dental conditions and specialised therapies. The comparison table below outlines the key differences between our plans, so you can choose one that suits you and your pet. Extra Care. Provides benefits for specified dental conditions and specialised therapies. Extra Care has a $2,000 limit per year (in addition to your annual benefit limit).

Treatment for the following specified dental conditions:

  • Gingivitis
  • Abscesses
  • Removal of teeth where medically necessary due to dental disease arising from infection, retained deciduous teeth, cavities and/or tooth fracture (see PDS)

Specialised therapies to treat a covered condition:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Chiropractic manipulation
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Treatment of behavioural conditions; or
  • Consultations with a veterinary behavioural specialist

Routine Care

Routine Care is available as an optional (non-insurance) benefit with all three levels of pet insurance. If you have Routine Care, we'll contribute towards the cost(s) of the following specified routine care items:

$50 annual benefit for two of the following:

  • Desexing
  • Vaccinations or health checks
  • Microchipping
  • Heartworm preventative
  • Dew claw removal
  • Prescription diets
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Cremation/burial
  • Council registration fees
  • Alternative medication
  • Obedience training

Plus annual benefits for the following:

  • $10 heartworm tests or blood screen;
  • $10 FeLv/Fiv tests or urinalysis; and
  • $45 for flea/tick/worm control
