Medibank and ahm customers able to access psychology telehealth services from today

    Telehealth

Medibank and ahm customers with extras cover that includes psychology will be able to claim for teleconsultations with psychologists from today.

This ensures that customers can maintain their current treatment and that new patients have the option of virtually connecting with a psychologist if they need to.

Medibank Chief Customer Officer David Koczkar said this decision has been made to support the health and wellbeing of customers at a time when they need it most.

“We understand that many people may be experiencing additional anxiety and distress in relation to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and are looking for the choice to connect to their treating health professional by phone or video conference,” he said.

“People are increasingly wanting to stay at home while others may also be in mandated self-isolation. Telehealth is a vital way in which our customers can continue to use their extras cover and access the support they need,” Mr Koczkar said.

Medibank is also looking into extending benefit payments to some other allied health professions where telehealth can be delivered effectively as an alternative to a face-to-face consultation.

“We will be actively working with other services such as physiotherapy to ensure our customers are able to access best practice care and that their safety and privacy is protected as care is delivered in this new way,” Mr Koczkar said.

    Other details

Medibank and ahm will pay benefits towards psychology services delivered via individual (one-on-one) telehealth consultation from 30 March 2020 through to 30 September 2020.
