Change is coming to Private Health Insurance

    Medibank Customer Experience team

No matter which private health insurer you’re with, the Australian government is introducing changes that may impact you from next year.

The government wants to make it easier for people to compare health insurance policies and know exactly what they are covered for. They’re introducing a simplified system to categorise policies with Gold, Silver, Bronze and Basic levels – each of which are designed to offer the same minimum benefits, regardless of the insurer. As well, all policies will use the same standard definitions for medical procedures - making them easier to understand.

What this means is some of these policies will have services added, and some of these will have services removed. The government has already decided that people can no longer claim some natural therapies from private health insurance for example, with this change coming into effect from April 1.

Early next year, we’ll be contacting our customers to help ensure they have all the information they need to get the health cover that’s right for them and their family. In the meantime, find out more about these changes here.
