    Travelling with peace of mind

    Medibank Travel Insurance

Medibank Travel Insurance has almost doubled some of its luggage claim limits and will automatically cover arthritis and mental health, ahead of the opening of the travel bubble with New Zealand.

Customers who take out travel insurance with Medibank will no longer have to declare their pre-existing osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis conditions.

Chief Customer Officer David Koczkar said Medibank is one of the first travel insurers not charging extra to cover arthritis.

“Our focus has been on building a travel insurance product that provides the best value, peace of mind and health support, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

“Customers will now have peace of mind that they are covered for their pre-existing arthritis conditions without needing to declare it, saving them as much as $224 on an international policy.1”

Medibank Travel Insurance has also announced significant increases to luggage claim limits for both international and domestic travel.

“Customers travelling overseas will now be able to claim up to $1,200 for lost mobile phones, up to $15,000 for lost luggage2 and up to $6,000 for rental car excess.

“While those travelling domestically can now claim up to $1,000 for a lost mobile phone and up to $5,000 for their rental car excess.

“Our data reveals that 1 in 5 Medibank Travel Insurance claims is related to lost luggage, so the limit changes are great news for our customers,” Mr Koczkar said.

Late last year, Medibank Travel Insurance announced a number of new benefits on domestic travel and international travel to New Zealand to support customers if they or their travelling companion contracts COVID-19 prior to their departure or during their trip.

Medibank will provide cover for some COVID-19-related cancellations and amendment expenses which means if you contract the virus prior to or while travelling domestically, we’ll provide cover for non-refundable trip expenses. This includes tickets to theme parks, shows and attractions.

“For those planning a holiday to New Zealand, customers will have cover for overseas medical expenses if they’re hospitalised due to COVID-19 while in the country.”

Medibank Travel Insurance encourages its customers to read the Product Disclosure Statement as limits, conditions and exclusions apply to the cover.
