Medibank welcomes Better Medical to the Amplar Health network

Medibank today announced the completion of its acquisition of Better Medical, a network of 61 GP and medical clinics in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.

This follows the announcement last month that Medibank had entered into an agreement to acquire the business from private equity firm Livingbridge (and other minority shareholders).

Amplar Health Chief Executive Robert Read welcomed the news, with the acquisition building on Medibank’s support for primary care in Australia.

“We’re delighted to formally welcome the Better Medical team, which will work alongside our Amplar Health network to champion early intervention and prevention in the community,” Mr Read said.

“We look forward to working closely with the dedicated doctors, nurses and allied health practitioners to support their commitment to delivering high-quality care to their patients.

“While the ownership of Better Medical may have changed, GPs will continue to have full clinical autonomy and the clinics remain open to everyone. The role of Medibank, which now has one of the largest GP clinic networks in Australia, will be supporting these health professionals to deliver more proactive, comprehensive and connected care.”

Better Medical CEO Craig Alchin also welcomed the news.

“Today marks a significant milestone for the Better Medical team. Becoming part of the Medibank and Amplar Health family strengthens our long-term commitment to supporting general practice and delivering exceptional care to the communities we serve,” Mr Alchin said.

“We are excited about this next chapter and the opportunities ahead to support our ongoing growth and evolution,” he said.
