Medibank has confirmed that its IT operation, Operation Safeguard, was successfully completed early on Saturday morning.

All customer-facing platforms have been fully tested with IT security experts from Microsoft and are operational with enhanced security protections.

The IT systems were back online ahead of schedule at 6.15am (AEDT) on Saturday 10 December 2022.

Customers can now access Medibank systems as usual, including the website and apps, and they can use HICAPS when claiming again.

Our retail stores and call centres will remain closed today and will reopen as usual on Monday 12 December 2022.

Medibank and ahm systems were temporarily offline from 8.30pm (AEDT) Friday 9 December 2022 as we undertook maintenance to further strengthen our systems and enhance security protections.

As part of Operation Safeguard, this planned activity involved IT security experts from Microsoft who joined us in our Melbourne headquarters from across the Asia-Pacific region over the weekend.

While there has been no further suspicious activity detected inside our systems since 12 October 2022, the maintenance work conducted overnight is part of Operation Safeguard, which includes measures to further strengthen security.

This includes the recent addition of two-factor authentication in our contact centres to increase the level of security for our customers when they call for support.

Since the cybercrime we have bolstered existing monitoring, added further detection and forensics capability across the Medibank system and network and have scaled up analytical support via specialist third parties.
