Medibank supporting DVA to improve claiming practices and quality of care for veterans

Medibank today announced it would support the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) to identify incorrect claims for veterans’ hospital payments, including coding errors, duplicate billing, and other inappropriate claim types.

This will assist DVA to ensure that veterans are receiving the most appropriate care to meet their needs and improve the quality of their patient outcomes.

Medibank will begin auditing private hospital data provided by DVA, taking advantage of Medibank’s expertise in this area using its analytics systems and market-leading methodology and processes.

The three-year program will focus on the DVA’s spend across private hospitals, including mental health facilities and day hospital services.

Medibank’s Group Executive Healthcare & Strategy Dr Andrew Wilson said Medibank and DVA have a shared commitment of creating better health and wellbeing outcomes for Australians.

“Medibank is proud to be working with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. This arrangement leverages our expertise in identifying improper or ineligible claims using our proprietary payment integrity system, ensuring DVA can deliver their healthcare funding efficiently and effectively to veterans,” Dr Wilson said.

“The service will ensure claims from providers are coded correctly with appropriate billing information. We will also help the Department to identify pockets of good practice and where improvement is required to deliver the best outcomes for veterans,” Dr Wilson said.

There will be no change to the scope of services that veterans are entitled to access as a result of this arrangement.
