Medibank's decision to invest in the first inclusive playspace in Victoria's south east is a step towards helping to boost the health and wellbeing of all Australian children.
The $22,500 grant from the Medibank Community Fund (MCF) means that the Touched by Olivia Foundation- together with other contributions- will be able to build a new inclusive playspace - Livvy's Place.
At the launch of the concept plan today at Marriott Waters in Lyndhurst, Medibank representatives joined the City of Casey and other supporters of the playspace.
Medibank Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Rita Marigliani said the Medibank Community Fund was proud to support such an exciting project.
"Medibank stands for better health, and we are pleased to be able to contribute to this project which is promoting activity and outdoor play for all children, no matter their age or ability," Ms Marigliani said.
"Currently children living in and around Lyndhurst have to travel for more than an hour just to access other inclusive play opportunities, so this will make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of children through physical play-and they'll be having a lot of fun at the same time.
"Medibank is committed to supporting community initiatives that create healthier, vibrant and more inclusive communities, and this playspace will provide a valuable asset and lasting community legacy."
The Touched by Olivia Foundation was one of 42 community groups to be selected from more than 900 applications for a 2014 MCF community grant. With grant amounts ranging from $5,000 to $35,000, a total of $600,000 of grant funds has been allocated to projects across Australia and New Zealand this year.
