Medibank private feeling better - reputex social responsibility ratings 2005

Reputex has announced its 2005 Social Responsibility Ratings for Australian companies, essentially the Top 100 ranked by revenue. Medibank Private was amongst the companies ranked.

For the second consecutive year Medibank Private improved its overall rating and received a Reputex 'A+' rating.

Specifically, Medibank Private improved its ranking, from 2004, for Corporate Governance and maintained ratings for environmental impact, social impact, and workplace practices, in which it is rated high.

Medibank Private Managing Director, George Savvides said, "The last year has marked a significant financial turnaround for the company. However, the turnaround journey has involved a number of initiatives across many areas of the business, it is rewarding to be recognised for our commitment to constantly improve all aspects of our business."

Medibank Private was, in particular, recognised for its customer service training program 'Service Edge' and for significant advances in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility. The Reputex report noted that the fund is progressively aligning its community investment and voluntary programs for members with its core area of expertise, with the aim of improving health standards and reducing claim rates.

Mr Savvides commented that Medibank Private produced its first Corporate Citizenship report this year, but recognised the fund could do much more to address the social impact issues relevant to our operations.

"All Medibank Private staff can be proud of the improvements we have made, ultimately the result is due to the commitment of all staff who embrace and implement our policies and mission.

"Our business has come a long way in recent years in improving our practises across all areas including the areas Reputex report on; Corporate Governance, Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Workplace Practices.

"Our commitment is now to continue to explore ways to improve our business and our role in the corporate, and broader, community particularly in the area of health and wellbeing," Mr Savvides said.
