Medibank community fund gives $600,000 for community health

The Medibank Community Fund is proud to announce it has allocated $600,000 to 52 local organisations across Australia and New Zealand as part of its Community Grants initiative.

The successful groups were selected for their commitment to healthy eating, physical activity or community connectedness. Covering a variety of worthy initiatives, they include schools, sports clubs, community groups, indigenous organisations and mental health groups.

Explaining the importance of the Grants program, Nicole Borg, Medibank Community Fund Manager, says:

"Medibank's Purpose of For Better Health extends further than just our members, as we take an active role as a leader in community health and wellbeing. Through the Grants program, we support small grassroots projects that respond to particular needs of specific groups in the community.

"The grants were allocated regionally and vary in value depending on the project. The successful recipients were chosen by Regional Councils consisting of local Medibank employees. The Councils reviewed the applications and selected the projects that best-met the criteria.

"Now that the Grants have been allocated, the local employees who were involved in the Grant selection will keep in touch with the recipients so we can watch them continue their great work with the community," Ms Borg said.

Established in 2011, the Medibank Community Fund has the specific goal of helping Medibank to extend its community reach via support of grassroots healthy living and community connectedness projects. Each year, Medibank commits one per cent of its pre-tax profit to the Fund to support four program areas: partnerships, community grants, scholarship grants and donations.
