Western Hospital welcomes GenesisCare to deliver chemotherapy services to local community

Western Hospital is proud to announce that GenesisCare is now providing on-site chemotherapy services as part of a broader expansion of care for Adelaide’s western suburbs. The service will deliver greater access to essential cancer treatment for the local community.

This collaboration is one of several major service enhancements at Western Hospital, including the recent addition of a 16-bed inpatient ward and a brand-new day surgery clinic, significantly increasing treatment capacity.

Since 1 November 2024, Western Hospital has accepted 1,800 public referrals, resulting in more than 1,000 surgeries—demonstrating its commitment to supporting the public health system by reducing wait times and helping more patients access timely care.

The Hon. Chris Picton, South Australia's Minister for Health and Wellbeing, praised the partnership and the hospital’s growing role in supporting public health services, "It’s fantastic that our partnership with Western Hospital is helping more South Australians receive the elective surgery they need. The Malinauskas Labor Government is building a bigger health system including 600 additional beds and we’re also partnering with private hospitals to ensure South Australians get access to timely care."

GenesisCare’s presence at Western Hospital brings cancer care to the local community in a welcoming, purpose-built environment.

Western Hospital CEO David Coorey said the hospital remains focused on expanding access and delivering high-quality, timely care, “We’re thrilled to welcome GenesisCare’s expanded cancer services to Western Hospital and to offer even more services through our new inpatient ward and day surgery clinic. These additions allow us to care for more people, more quickly, and help take pressure off the broader public system.”

Robert Read, Chief Executive of Medibank’s Amplar Health, an investor in Western Hospital, said the broadening of the offering at Western Hospital aligns with Amplar and Medibank’s ambition to improve healthcare access across the country:

“We’re proud to support this important step forward for healthcare in South Australia. This is exactly what we’re about - building better health for all Australians. By improving access to care and supporting initiatives like this, we’re backing the South Australian Government’s efforts to deliver more timely and effective services to patients.”

GenesisCare’s chemotherapy services operate Monday to Friday, delivered by a highly skilled oncology team committed to patient-first care.

Medibank has a 49% shareholding in Western Adelaide Hospital which we acquired in 2024.
