Medibank wins contract with australian defence force

Medibank is pleased to announce a new contract with the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

From July 1 2012, Medibank will manage and coordinate healthcare services for all serving ADF personnel nationally, from point of injury or illness through to recovery. This new agreement will simplify and streamline the healthcare process for all ADF personnel nationally and further enhance Medibank's position as a provider of health insurance, services and solutions.

Medibank will connect every ADF facility with leading local providers through its network of private and public hospitals, specialists and allied health contractors. The services include access to medical practitioners and on-and-off-base allied health professionals, radiology, pathology and optometry services and a world class telehealth service delivering triage, health advice and referral services.

George Savvides, Managing Director of Medibank, says, "We're looking forward to working with the Australian Defence Force on this exciting project. Over the past few years, Medibank's expansion into health services has enabled a transformation from a narrowly focussed health insurance organisation to a provider of health assurance and innovative health system services for multiple clients. This advanced expertise will be utilised to oversee the better health of the entire Australian Defence Force population."

Mr Savvides continues, "This contract will enable us to deliver the co-ordination of quality care across a full range of health services including prevention, treatment and rehabilitation for both physical and mental health. It will also provide improved access to healthcare services and consistent return-to-work outcomes for our sick and injured ADF personnel."

Rear Admiral Robyn Walker, Commander Joint Health and Surgeon General of the Australian Defence Force comments, "We're delighted to welcome Medibank on board and are looking forward to working with them. This partnership will facilitate the delivery of quality health services to our 80,000 permanent and reserve personnel across Australia, overseeing the diverse healthcare requirements of Defence Force personnel under a comprehensive health services system."

The contract is between Medibank and the Department of Defence. As the Prime Contractor, Medibank will be responsible for execution of all aspects of the contract.
