Medibank walks the walk for heart week

The Medibank Community Fund (MCF) is proud to support Heart Week and the Heart Foundation's call for people to walk towards better heart health.

Medibank employees from across Australia including its retail and corporate branches are joining community members to participate in the Heart Foundation Walking (HFW) groups throughout Heart Week.

Divisional General Manager of Sales and Service for Medibank, Jason Gowie said Heart Week is a timely reminder for everyone to take control of their heart health, get active and raise awareness.

"Our employees are passionate about supporting initiatives like Heart Foundation Walking and participating in events like Heart Week which create better life outcomes for people of all ages and abilities," Mr Gowie said.

"This year throughout Heart Week Medibank employees will also be handing out fruit to customers and members of the public and serving up healthy meals."

Each year, almost 10,000 Australians die of a heart attack and more than one million Australians aged 30-65 are at a high risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Many Australians still don't know that smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, physical inactivity, obesity, depression and social isolation are the main risk factors for a heart attack.

That's why during Heart Week this year, the Heart Foundation, Heart Foundation Walking and Medibank employees will be leading by example and urging all Australians to learn the warning signs of a heart attack and reduce the risk of having one.

Medibank's support is all part of Generation Better - Medibank's commitment to bettering the health of all Australians regardless of their age, gender or health status.
