    Medibank private board appointments


    Prominent health sector business leader, George Savvides, has been appointed to the board of directors of Australia's largest private health fund, Medibank Private.

    Also, Dr Michael Bollen, a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) and a prominent Australian and general medical practitioner has been reappointed to the Medibank Private board for three years.

    These appointments were made by the Minister for Health and Aged Care, Dr Michael Wooldridge.

    Mr Savvides, CEO of Healthpoint Technologies Ltd since October 2000, was previously CEO and managing director of the $1.5 billion annual turnover Sigma Pharmaceutical Group - a position he held from 1996 to 2000.

    During his five years at Sigma, Mr Savvides managed the company's transition from a pharmacist co-operative to a publicly-listed company in 1999, after successfully incorporating a number of acquisitions. These included the Amcal and Guardian Pharmacy groups in Australia and New Zealand.

    Mr Savvides is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the chair of the Medicines Partnership of Australia.

    He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree with Honours at the University NSW, and an MBA from the University of Technology, Sydney.

    Dr Bollen is principle of BMP Healthcare Consulting Pty Ltd and is a member of the National Health and Medical Research Council.
