Fun walk bridges the physical activity gap

The 2007 Medibank Private Seven Bridges Walk is rapidly approaching and Medibank Private Managing Director George Savvides is extending an invitation to Sydney residents to take part in the fantastic event, set for Sunday 28th of October.

"The Medibank Private Seven Bridges Walk is a great way for Sydneysiders to get out and about and rediscover the joy of walking in one of the world's most beautiful cities," Mr Savvides said.

"As Medibank's recent research into physical inactivity showed, almost 9 million adults do not partake in enough physical activity. Yet all it takes for most people to improve their health and fitness is 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week.

"So I am saying to those people struggling to find a way to increase their activity levels - the Medibank Private Seven Bridges Walk is a great opportunity to literally take that first step.

"Walking is a most natural, sustainable and adaptable form of exercise and suits every lifestyle. Whoever you are, however old you are, however fit you are, you can participate in this event," he said.

The 2007 event follows on from the success of last year's inaugural walk which attracted over 6,000 participants. Over 10,000 participants are expected to take part in this years event, covering a 25km circular loop around Sydney Harbour, crossing seven of Sydney's Bridges and taking in some of the most spectacular scenery and Harbour views that Sydney has to offer.

The walk is for everyone, all ages and fitness levels. It is not a race, and there is no set length of the course you have to complete. The course is open from 8am - 5pm on Sunday 28th October, 2007. There will be free shuttle buses available for event participants on the day that circulate around the 25km route.

Participants can register for the event online, where they can also donate to any of the four charities involved with the event - beyondblue: the national depression initiative, The Cancer Council NSW, Diabetes Australia - NSW and The Heart Foundation.

Online registration also gives participants the chance to win some fantastic prizes including one of 7 Nokia 6110 Navigator mobile phones with in-built GPS navigational systems, some great Asics prize packs and many more.

So why not spend the day conquering Seven Bridges of Sydney with family and friends and go into the draw to win some great prizes, as well as supporting several great causes.
