Who doesn’t love fitness disguised as fun? To keep you motivated, we’ve pulled together a list of our favourite dance fitness classes to inspire a range of movers and shakers.

1. No Lights No Lycra

Let loose, shake it out and dance daggy, freely, badly – it doesn’t matter, no one can see you. No Lights No Lycra invites you to dance your heart out in the dark to a mix of tracks from across the ages. No rhythm or skill required here!

2. Salsa

Latinos sure know how to exercise in style. With quick steps and hip-gyrating moves, a fiery salsa class will leave your legs and core burning. Plus, it can help with balance and coordination development. Whether you’re heading to class solo or with others, salsa is incredibly social so you’re bound to make new amigos.

3. Barre

Barre fuses yoga and pilates with moves inspired by classical ballet exercises. Switching between the barre and the mat, exercises help tone and lengthen muscles, with a focus on your core, hips and butt. Don’t worry – no tutu needed.

4. Tap dancing

From tiny tots to golden girls (and guys, for that matter), tap dancing suits a range of ages. Not only does it get your heart rate up, it will also challenge your strength, flexibility and coordination. Recalling steps and routines will also give your brain a bit of a workout.

5. Belly dancing

Dig out your tambourines and find your inner groove at a hip rolling belly dance class. With gentle swivels and sashays, belly dancing is a low-impact form of exercise, great for those wanting to go easy on the joints, while building core muscles and improving flexibility.

6. Swing

Consider yourself a jitterbug? Kick your heels up to the lively melodies of swing dancing. With fast dips and twirls, swing dancing is both high cardio and weight-bearing – it’ll keep you fit and help build bone density. You’ll be skipping home high on endorphins after a class of swing.
