Parenting, New York and Love Taza

Lifestyle blogger Naomi chats about raising a family in NYC, from spinach smoothies to sibling love

Naomi and Josh live in New York City with their littlies Eleanor and Sampson. With a new baby due this December and a popular blog, Love Taza, to maintain, life’s a wonderful, hectic juggling act for this fun foursome. Naomi chats with us about about all things family, offering some wonderful insights on motherhood – from biggest surprises to second babies.

Surprises about motherhood?

Motherhood is an exhausting, challenging and endless job, but just when you’re feeling down or overwhelmed, your little one might hug you voluntarily, or share with their sibling all on their own, and just like that, all is right in the world. That sort of love and joy they bring into your day just can’t be beat. I never expected it to be this good of a gig. But it is seriously the greatest.

Challenges and positives of raising children in NYC?

There are countless things to do and experience with our kids here in NYC. The museums, culture, parks and people are endless.  The biggest challenge is fitting it all in.

Top tip for travelling with little ones?

Keep your itinerary flexible and always have a snack on hand.

Differences in raising your first vs. second child?

I often felt guilty right after having my second child, that he wasn’t getting that one on one attention my first received from me. But I soon learned he was getting even more, because he had a sibling, and he meant everything to his big sister. It’s been extra special to see them both thrive on having each other around all the time.  I might not be able to dote on each one individually as much throughout the day, but they have a blast together, and it’s so fun to watch!

One thing you’ve learnt since starting your blog?

There are so many things I want to do with my blog, my side projects, and my other creative endeavors. But my family always comes first, and this is such a short season of life, being a mama to my little ones, that I don’t want to miss out on it. I’ve learned balancing work/life/kids is a big myth. It’s all about juggling everything the best you can, and prioritising what is most important – which is my family, in my case.

Two of your kids’ favourite meals?

Both E and S are major pizza lovers over here. They also don’t mind spinach in their fruit smoothies, and love to make one with us every morning. It’s the first thing they ask for when they wake up! But their favourite snack is a bell pepper.
