    Healthy lunch delivered

A new food trend is finding followers keen for a home-packed lunch, without the time to prepare one.

Fresh, organic lunchboxes lovingly prepared and delivered to your workplace are finding fans in the lunchroom. Perfect for people without the time to make their own lunches but searching for a healthier alternative to takeaway, they’re growing in popularity among CBD and inner city office workers. Jumping on the bandwagon, Medibank member Jen scopes out a few choices and shares her findings.

If you’re anything like me, despite your best intentions to get organised and pack a healthy lunch you actually want to eat, you end up ducking out to grab the same overpriced, dull and, let’s face it, unhealthy lunch to much at your desk.

I decided to find out what was out there to help time-poor office workers like myself and was pleasantly surprised with what I discovered.

It turns out that a number of lunch delivery services have cropped up in cities around Australia recently to meet a growing demand for organic, fresh and nutritionally balanced food without the fuss of having to prepare it.

Tahl Katz and his team get their free-range ingredients from the South Melbourne market, turn them into an impressive array of daily salad choices and deliver straight to your office. The Moo Thai Boxer is succulent rump steak slices served on baby spinach, finely sliced carrot, celery, capsicum, tomatoes and avocado and sprinkled with toasted cashews and a zesty lime dressing – totally satisfying and scrumptious. It would be hard to beat the day’s vegetarian option, Just Beet It – roasted baby beets on spinach, Andean grains, candied walnuts, orange zest, labne and fresh mint. Salad prices range from $11.50 to $15.50.

    Good Freakin Food

Good Freakin Food founder Jacq Lamberti takes inspiration from her Italian family heritage and puts a vegan twist on it. Adopting her nonna’s ‘garden to plate’ philosophy, Jacq produces gorgeous organic vegan and gluten-free meals for delivery on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to inner suburbs across Melbourne’s inner east, north and south. I sampled Jacq’s Vietnamese RAWtastic salad on basil rice noodles – heaps of fresh bok choy, baby broccoli, apple, daikon carrot, zucchini, spring onions and lettuce topped with a soy ginger dressing and a slice each of watermelon and orange. Who knew vegan food could be so exciting – and filling!

    Bourbon Street

This slow-cooked, New Orleans-inspired lunch service provides free delivery to Melbourne CBD, South Melbourne, Albert Park and South Yarra every Wednesday and Thursday. Described as “soul food”, the menu includes mouth-watering BBQ beef, pulled pork sandwiches and other cajun delights, including gluten free and vegetarian options.Try the kale chips for a crunchy, tasty after-lunch snack.

    The Farmer’s Son

Husband and wife team SJ and Tate Culley set up Brisbane’s first 100 per cent organic food delivery service. Combining SJ’s expertise as a doctor and nutritionist and Tate’s experience as ‘the farmer’s son’, the duo deliver gluten-free vegetarian meals to workplaces across Brisbane’s CBD, Southbank, West End, Fortitude Valley, New Farm, Newstead and Tenerife on a Danish cargo bike (and delivery is free!).

    Lovely Lunchbox

Lovely Lunchbox takes away decision-making stress by preparing one lovely lunch option each day. All you need to decide is what days you want lunch and check out the menu on the website for details of what will be served each day. The lunches are hearty, fresh and delicious.

    The Living Lunchbox

Friends Nicole and Tyler came together to create The Living Lunchbox so they could share their passion for ‘healthy, loving, high-vibrational food’ with others. They use high quality, natural and organic ingredients to create meals to deliver to office workers around Sydney’s CBD every Tuesday.

    My Fit Lunchbox

My Fit Lunchbox is all about clean eating – using only wholefood ingredients and the healthiest of cooking methods to make their meals. Meals are made in the morning and delivered to you that same day at your workplace. With gluten-free, low GI, low carbohydrate and dairy-free options, everyone is catered for.
