Live Better

Happiness is love. Full stop.

A Harvard University study outlines in simple terms what men need for happiness.

The Harvard Grant Study commenced in 1938 and has followed 268 male undergraduate students to discover what men need to live a happy life.

Psychiatrist George Vaillant who led and directed the study for over 30 years has recently written a book about the study and its findings. The book, Triumphs of Experience, outlines what was learnt about how men can lead happier and more fulfilling lives.

The strongest theme that comes through in the book is that life is about warm relationships and love. Taking the time to foster relationships with family and friends can lead to longevity, lower stress levels and improved wellbeing.

And for mothers out there, spend time nurturing your relationship with your sons. Beyond the health and wellbeing benefits the study found men who had ‘warm’ relationships with their mothers took home $87,000 more per year than men whose mothers were perceived to be uncaring.

The simplest message Vaillant shares to take away from this amazing study is:

‘Happiness is love. Full stop’.

A Harvard University study that has been running for the past 75 years outlines in simple terms what men need for happiness.
