How to feel your best this summer
Be mindful this summer and take some time to pause, rejuvenate and focus on your wellbeing.
Summer is the perfect time to wind down, take a deep breath and re-connect with the people and things that you love. Read on for ideas and inspiration for a joyful summer.
Escape the heat and open your mind
As the temperature rises, some great places to seek relief from the heat are the many art galleries and museums around Australia. Whether by yourself or with family or friends, enjoy the coolness of these cultural enclaves while expanding your mind and thinking.
Be conscious of time
With the longer days of summer comes the feeling that we have more time in our days. However, we needn't feel like we have to fill this extra time doing more. Instead, use the daylight hours to read a book by the window, simply taking enjoyment from the small things in life that we may often miss.
Get back to nature
Summer is when the great outdoors shines, whether that be a local park, garden, beach or bush. Without spending a cent, lay on a blanket outside reading, stroll through city gardens, dip your head into the ocean or just sit and watch a setting sun. All mindful, free and deeply enriching ways to enjoy summer.
Use the change in season to stimulate a reconnection in your life. It might be getting back into the garden, or having a cup of tea with an old friend, or it may mean inviting your dad out for that round of golf you have been too busy all year to commit to.
Find your goal
We often associate goal setting with our careers, or a task athletes do – but having a simple, personal goal or purpose can lead to improved wellbeing. It doesn't need to be a promotion or a marathon, just find something small for yourself to work towards, enjoying the journey as much as the destination.
Eat an ice-cream
Appreciate the simple things in life – a hot day and a delicious ice-cream. Pretty good, right?
Rest and rejuvenate
Get enough quality rest. There is no better time than summer for a siesta!
Nourish and keep moving
It's amazing the difference healthy food, sunshine and some activity can have to boost your feeling of wellness.
Learn something new
Whether it’s a new summer recipe or how to swim breaststroke, the challenge and stimulation is a winner.
With a busy year wrapping up, take the time to ask someone how they are and feel free to share with someone how you are too.
Feel good by giving back
We often use the new year as a time to focus on ourselves – our goals, plans and resolutions. While this time to reflect is important, it is well worth thinking about how you can contribute and support others.
It could be volunteering, it could be joining a local club or group, it could be helping your partner to eat healthier or helping your children discover a love of books and reading.
There is something deeply powerful and positive in helping others. Use this time to look for opportunities to help out.
