Here’s how you can help the Red Cross assist the ten thousands of people affected by cyclone pam.

How you can help?

Red Cross has launched the Cyclone Pam (Vanuatu) 2015 Appeal to provide humanitarian support to people affected by the devastating cyclone in the Pacific.

Tropical Cyclone Pam hit Vanuatu on Friday 13 March. Thousands of people urgently need first aid, shelter, healthcare, clean water and sanitation. Communication networks remain down, but there are initial reports of multiple fatalities and widespread destruction of homes and buildings across the country.

Evacuation centres are crowded in Vila and there are concerns for people living in informal settlements. Power and water supplies are severely disrupted and all shops are closed.

Red Cross has more than 200 volunteers currently on the ground in Vanuatu, providing first aid to the injured, supporting people at evacuation centres, distributing food and relief items, checking on families door-to-door and assessing the damage across the country.

The Medibank Community Fund is a proud partner of Red Cross, and encourages Australians to support the organisation’s vital aid and relief work – especially in a time of crisis like this. “While emergency preparedness is a key focus, the partnership with Red Cross also directs funds to disaster relief and recovery efforts in Australia and internationally,” says Rita Marigliani, Medibank Head of Corporate Social Responsibly. “These funds are now supporting the Red Cross’s efforts in the areas affected by Cyclone Pam.”

How your donation can help

Funds from the Cyclone Pam (Vanuatu) 2015 Appeal will be used by the Red Cross to:

  • Provide emergency relief and recovery assistance to affected communities.
  • Supply water and sanitation, shelter and health initiatives in affected areas.
  • Send specialist aid workers to assist in initial assessments, relief, recovery and longer-term disaster management operations.
