In the United States, McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets were found to have two and a half times more salt than their British equivalent. As for Australia, well our chicken nuggets have the second lowest salt content of the countries that were tested (which is still pretty salty!). The study suggested that government initiatives to reduce salt content in processed foods, such as those being undertaken in the UK, can play a role in reducing the levels of salt we consume. Reducing salt intake is a way to reduce high blood pressure and the associated risk of heart disease. Be sure to check labels for salt content.
