6 new healthy snacks

Satisfy your post-lunch cravings with our pick of the latest nourishing snacks to hit the shelves

1. Dark Cacao Chia Pods

The Chia Co’s latest offering in their expanding Chia Pod range is the Dark Cacao Chia Pod. It gets top marks for its rich, dark colour and gooey, chocolatey consistency, making it feel like a much naughtier afternoon treat than it really is. Dairy free, gluten free and made with only chia seed gel, almond milk, coconut palm sugar and cacao powder, its jelly mouthfeel may take some getting used to, but we think it’s a winning, guilt-free snack.

2. Loving Earth kale chips

For those that can’t go past a packet of crisps, give Loving Earth’s yellow or red kale chips a whirl. Much healthier than the traditional variety, they’re actually made by dipping kale in flavour combos and then slowly dehydrating it at a low temperatures, preserving goodness. For true chip diehards, these may miss the mark, but for something flavour-packed to nibble on while boosting your greens intake, the cashew and barbeque spice blend is a tangy choice.

3. Impressed Juice

When it comes to an afternoon snack, don’t forget the liquids. A refreshing, zesty juice might be just the thing to bring those spreadsheets back into focus. We gave Impressed Juice’s Ginga Ninja a slurp and liked its sweet yet punchy flavour, with the nice tangy ginger aftertaste. Other cold-pressed juice flavours include The Works and Summer Greens. With 100% Aussie-grown fruit, veg and herbs, don’t forget to give it a good shake before opening to mix up the brew.

4. five:am powerpak

Breathing new life into the humble tub of yoghurt, five:am’s powerpaks are perfect for any time you hit a mid-arvo slump. This small portion of their deliciously creamy yoghurt is boosted with antioxidant rich acai, fibre and protein from linseed and comes in three flavours – blueberry, raspberry and honey. The squeezy pack will take you back to the playground and the convenient, spoon-free pouch is perfect for a desk snack.

5. Kooka’s Natural

There’s nothing quite as satisfying as a cookie and a hot drink when you’re after that 3pm pick-me-up. Kooka’s Natural’s new range of wholesome, nourishing cookies nicely blends natural ingredients and organic and locally-sourced produce to create moreish combos like orange hazelnut, choc goji, oat coconut and raw cacao and macadamia. Perfectly snack-sized and dense in texture, they’re not as buttery as your traditional cookie, but for a less-wicked alternative, they’ll hit the spot alongside a herbal tea.

6. Slim Secrets Protein Puds

Another whizz product using those nutrient-dense chia seeds, Slim Secret’s protein puds are a single serve dessert offering a tasty, high protein flavour hit in one convenient package. With luscious offerings like strawberry, choc coconut and salted caramel, they’re a naturally sweetened, gluten free snack packed with high fibre chia seeds. Top with fresh fruit, seeds or nuts for an added boost.
