The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program reaches 800 schools

10% of Australian primary schools are now involved in Stephanie Alexander’s food education program

Creating a healthier future starts with the youngest generation, and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program is playing a key role in fostering a love for healthy eating in children across Australia.

This year, the program has reached an incredible milestone. There are now 800 primary schools around Australia involved in the Kitchen Garden Program – which means 10% of all Australian primary schools are delivering positive, engaging food education.

Now, the Foundation is proud to share the ultimate kitchen garden toolkit with any early learning centre, primary school and secondary school around Australia.

By registering for membership with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation, schools can gain access to hundreds of resources for kitchen and garden activities, including classroom recipes, information sheets and templates, activity ideas and instructions, and access to a dynamic online community where kitchen garden educators share knowledge, experience and inspiration.

“By teaching children about good nutrition through the hands-on experience of growing, harvesting and preparing fresh and healthy food, the program is creating life-long positive food habits.”

As the Principal Partner of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation, the Medibank Community Fund has invested more than $700,000 into helping deliver this wonderful program and teach primary school children and their families about healthy food and eating practices.

At a ceremony celebrating the 800-school milestone, George Savvides, Medibank’s Managing Director, shared his congratulations to the Foundation for its incredible work so far.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be celebrating this milestone today, a milestone that we have been working with the foundation towards since we began our partnership three years ago,” Mr Savvides said.

“At Medibank we’re committed to creating better health outcomes for all Australians. Our commitment to better health is at the core of everything we do and our partnership with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation is an extension of our purpose.

“By teaching children about good nutrition through the hands-on experience of growing, harvesting and preparing fresh and healthy food with their classmates and their family, the program is creating life-long positive food habits and nurturing passion within kids to try new things and cook nutritious meals at school and at home.

“It has been an incredible journey to get to this and we are very excited to be entering this next phase of our partnership and supporting pleasurable food education to all Australian children and adolescents through the Foundations world-first membership service.”
