Kids getting their hands dirty: learning to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh seasonal food.
This is a significant milestone for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation, with over 50,000 children aged eight to twelve now engaging in a healthy produce education program which strives to create positive food experiences and foster lifelong health eating habits.
The program began in 2001 when renowned cook and food writer Stephanie Alexander established a veggie patch and home-style kitchen at Collingwood College. Now schools as far reaching as Coober Pedy in the outback to beachside Bondi are flourishing with the beautiful gardens, delicious produce and community engagement that underpin the foundation’s philosophy.
Stephanie was also recently awarded The Age’s Good Food Guide Award for Innovation, recognising her work in bringing pleasurable food education to thousands of children.
