Social influencers: Tarryn Lucas

Group fitness and personal trainer Tarryn Lucas chats to us about working towards better health.

Tarryn Lucas lives and breathes fitness, and is driven by a desire to help inspire others to live a healthier life – not only her personal training clients, but a wider network she reaches through social media.

When and why did you start using social media to promote better health and fitness?

I wanted to share my passion and highlight the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle. Social media has given me the opportunity to reach thousands more than I would in the coastal town I have grown up in. The more people who know and understand the importance of exercise, the better!

What does a healthy lifestyle look like to you?

For me personally, it is exactly that – a lifestyle choice. Eating clean, raw, wholefoods to nourish and give my body high quality fuel to support my highly energetic day. For anyone looking to change their habits, deciding to take on a new, clean lifestyle approach is the best choice you will ever make for your health and wellbeing.

How do you decide what content to post on each platform?

My Facebook content is highly detailed information for my ever-growing client base including my session times, new classes and some of my favourite healthy recipes that I use daily. I also share my personal blog posts and a monthly newsletter via Facebook, so all content going out to my followers is highly informative. Instagram I utilise for small snapshots of motivation, new exercises and what I’m up to when I’m out and about. It’s more brief, and something I hope people can flick through and have the inspiration to get out there and get moving!

What makes social media a beneficial medium for connecting with people?

Social media has bridged the gap of living in a somewhat rural area. Without it, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to reach out and help people who are thousands of kilometres away. Recently, I had a lovely lady from Sweden contact me, as she needed some motivation and help to really get going on her new lifestyle. Being able to connect with people wherever they are via a social network is just incredible – we really are very lucky to have such an amazing tool we can use for the greater good.

Have you gained any valuable information or insights from interacting with your followers?

Interacting with followers via Facebook and Instagram improves my own motivation and dedication. I love that so many individuals around the world have similar interests to me. I enjoy seeing how people are changing their lives for the better and aiming for better health.

What are your top three tips to help people on their journey to better health?

Stay active, eat clean and be happy!
