Million dollar health award
Google and Facebook have teamed up to launch a multi million dollar health award.
Google founder Sergey Brin, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and hugely successful technology investor Yuri Milner have teamed up to create the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences Foundation.
The foundation provides 11 annual awards worth three million dollars each to reward life saving research.
With over 33 million dollars up for grabs annually, the foundation hopes to spread the word that it’s not just certain industries offering prospects of global recognition. "Young people will hopefully get the message that not only the careers in sports or entertainment can get a public recognition,” Milner said.
Both Brin and Zuckerberg have personal links to the world of health. Brin is married to Anne Woicicki, founder of genomics firm 23andMe and Zuckerberg recently married medical school graduate Priscilla Chan.
