Hitting the road with your pet

Lifestyle — Posted 05/12/12

Bringing your pet with you on a trip makes exploring new surrounds double as fun and takes away the stress of making housing arrangements during your time away.

We’ve picked six dog-friendly destinations across Australia to wet the whistle on holiday options alongside your favourite furry companion.

Hollow Log Estate, VIC

Located in Victoria’s picturesque spa country, Hollow Log Estate in Muskvale is just a short six-minute drive from the pretty country town of Daylesford. With two accommodation options to choose from, Hollow Log Cottage and Hollow Log Stoney, the property is geared up for holidaying with your dog as well as being a luxury retreat for humans. The estate’s dam provides a cool spot for your dog to swim in on hot days and there is a half-acre exercise area for them to explore. At Hollow Log Estate, dogs are welcome inside the properties.

Rainbow Farm, SA

Owners Lorraine and David bought Rainbow Farm on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula in 1998 as a place to relax and run their own dogs. This vision for the property remains true today, with the farm welcoming dogs of any size and providing a safe environment for them to enjoy. Children are also most welcome on the property and a beautiful garden and 15 acres of land is a treat for all guests to explore.

Peck’s on Pine, TAS

Experience some old-world charm at Peck’s on Pine heritage B&B in West Hobart, Tasmania. Built in 1890, this historic property happily accommodates dogs and provides a secure, fenced environment for them to explore safely. With treats on arrival and three nearby leash-free parks, Peck’s on Pine is a welcome escape for your pooch and with a well-stocked library and delicious local produce cooked up in the mornings, you won’t have a bad time either.

Seaflower, NSW

Located in blissful Jervis Bay, Seaflower is a relaxing home away from home for you and your pet. Comfortably sleeping six adults, it’s a great choice for a luxury group holiday and is pet friendly, although management asks that you enquire in relation to pet suitability. An alfresco dining area and fully-equipped kitchen make it the perfect spot to cook up a summer BBQ after a day on the beach and in house spa treatments ensure you fully relax in this tranquil setting.

Riverview Retreat, QLD

Riverview Retreat is geared up for holidaying dogs with resident dog trainer Chris on hand to correct any behavioural problems your dog may be having while you kick back. Known for its fishing and crabbing, whale watching, long stretches of beach and national parks, it’s a blissful setting to unwind just 25 minutes north of Hervey Bay. Riverview Retreat has three accommodation options and dogs are offered the doggy den, a waterfront fenced enclosure with plenty of shade and room to stretch the legs. Stand up paddle boarding is available and Chris has even trained his dog Lani to sit on his paddleboard while out in the surf.

Peppermint Tree Lodge, WA

Two and a half hours drive from Perth between Bunbury and Busselton, Peppermint Tree Lodge on Peppermint Grove beach is a pretty special local find. Swim in pristine beaches, explore the nearby Tuart forests, enjoy homebaked bread and local cheeses on arrival and, most importantly, treat your pet on this dog friendly property. Pets are allowed inside Peppermint Lodge’s three accommodation options and with a fenced off area for them to explore and a dog beach below the house, they’ll have just as much fun as you on this comfortable property.
