Work-off a factor in food labelling
Making nutrition labels simple and easy to understand is a constant focus of health departments around the world.
A novel approach has been established through a small New Zealand study to create food labels that display a ‘work-off factor’. The study identified that people are less likely to consume an energy-dense snack food when its label outlines the exercise it would take to work off its calorie content. University of Canterbury honours marketing student Michelle Boulton studied 220 people and said including exercise on the label increased the likelihood of higher feelings of guilt after consumption.
