N is for nutrition
Nutrition and its link to learning is the focus of a recent research report by Medibank Community Fund Partner, The Smith Family.
‘How is learning enhanced through nutrition’ explores how poor health and nutrition play an important role in the learning and school performance of children. The report asserts that healthy children are better placed to receive the benefits of a school education, participate in activities and learn.
As disadvantaged children are more likely to suffer from poor nutrition and higher rates of obesity, the report reinforces the need to provide assistance to families to help them take on healthier practices.
Healthy nutritious practices for families include ensuring children start the day with a good, balanced breakfast, making sure regular physical activity is a part of their lives and packing nutritious snacks and lunch to sustain them throughout the day.
